I newly posted the natural remedies for acne that helped me lastly achieve and maintain clear skin. One thing I point out was the advantages of probiotics on the skin, and a probiotic face mask is one of my favorite cheap ways to get them on the skin naturally. Why Probiotics on the Membrane? As I point out in my acne remedies post, we are just starting to comprehend the system of living organisms that exist on our membrane. Just as we have a gut microbiome, investigators are finding that we have similar but not the same colonies of bacteria on our membrane, in our mouths and other places as well. I’m happy for the emerging research about the membrane biome and for skin products that will take into account separate probiotic needs, but in the meantime, this is a simple at-home recipe that has been around for days! (I recite one time that Cleopatra used to wash in yogurt to stay youthful).

Food on the Face?
I love this expression mask because it is cooling and refreshing and just textures great on the membrane too. Yogurt logically has probiotics and use fats and this is a very gentle mask. I typically do a yogurt mask each couple of weeks and alternate with a deep cleansing fire mask. The good thing about this mask is how informal it is to do. You can use plain organic yogurt or add a pill of probiotics for an additional boost. I typically add a capsule of a probiotic/prebiotic for an additional boost. Yogurt comprises zinc and lactic acid (a natural hydroxyl acid) that are best for the membrane, and the helpful fats in yogurt help to nourish skin. I found that adding 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder was best when I was fighting bad skin and that adding 1 teaspoon of olive oil helped with a dry membrane.
