Winter is no doubt an enjoyable season, but it can play havoc with your skin if you do not take the adequate precautions. Skin tends to become dry and parched during the cold season due to decreases in humidity and other factors like indoor heating which dries out the moisture from your skin. Here are some tips to prevent dry skin before the cold season actually sets in.
-
Use a winter friendly exfoliator:
It is best to stop using products containing glycolic during the cold winter months and replace it with products containing lactic acid. This is because of glycolic acid, being a small molecule has a tendency to penetrate the skin quickly and is considered to be ideal for the oily and acne-prone skin. On the other hand, lactic acid is a large molecule which penetrates at much slower speed and also has hydrating properties. Therefore, products containing lactic acid are a better choice as compared to products with glycolic acid, especially during the winter months.
-
Use a skin humidifier:
Since, the skin tends to be dry during the winter season, running a humidifier while you sleep is a good idea. During the summer months, skin tends to be more hydrated and softer due to the humidity present in the environment. Simply hanging some wet bath towels in your bedroom at sleep time, is also a way to easily humidify the air.
-
Switch your skin cleanser:
You need a strong cleanser to wash off dirt, oil, and sweat from your face during the summer season. But during the winter season, your skin cleanser should be much milder which gently cleans your skin, without being too harsh on it. A mild cleanser containing ceramides or glycerin from an exfoliating cleanser is a good choice.
-
Layer skin protection products:
Apply a hydrating serum initially and follow it up with applications of a good moisturizer. This will ensure extra protection to your skin and keep skin well hydrated and nourished at the same time.

Oil as a body moisturizer:
Safflower oil is a good body moisturizer during the cold winter months. It has the ability to enrich your skin and keep up the moisture level. It contains the ingredient linoleic acid, which is a fatty acid that is commonly used by skin to act as protectives barrier and also to keep skin moisturized. Linoleic acid is a proven super moisturizer that is abundantly used in cooking and works great for your skin too.
