The Fasting Could Cure Diabetes and Regenerate the Pancreas

Regenerate the Pancreas

According to a new study published in the American Journal “Cell” (Cell), a new diet based on fasting can click the reboot of the body.

The study shows that diet stimulates the pancreas to regenerate alone, which leads to a blood sugar level regulation and to cure the symptoms of diabetes.

The researchers put mice to keep a diet four days post a week for several months to regenerate beta cells in the pancreas, the organ that stores and releases insulin, and noticed that they have active cells replace damaged ones.

Pancreatic Functions

It is also a digestive, exocrine organ that secretes pancreatic juice that contains digestive enzymes to assist with digestion and the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine. These enzymes help to further break down the carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids in the chyme.

The team has experimented even on pancreatic cells from human donors, patients with type 1 diabetes, and found that the diet has generated an extra amount of insulin, as well as proteins Ngn3, necessary for the fulfillment of the pancreatic functions.

We are considering that the tests were done on mice and human cells in the laboratory. There is still much to do before we prove the efficiency of this diet in the real world. Researchers do not encourage using this method to treat diabetes without medical supervision.

Symptoms of Diabetes Type 1

As the team looks at the University of Southern California, the diet heals in mice, symptoms of diabetes type 1, which appear when the pancreas is unable to produce insulin, type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is affected by insulin resistance.

Pushing the mice in an extreme situation and then making them return to the initial state. Pancreatic cells stimulated to use some method for reprogramming, “Valter Longo, explains the head of the research team.

Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis

The diet that mimics fasting is trendy among scientists. Had positive results from people who have tried to lose weight, previous studies have associated with a decrease in acute diseases, like cancer and heart disease. They have found that it can reduce even the symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

In either case, it has proved that when the body is deprived of food, this triggers the production of healthy cells. “From the medical point of view, these results have great potential because I proved-at least on mice-like symptoms of diabetes can be treated through diet,” explains Longo.

“From the scientific point of view, the results are even more important, because it shows us that we can use nutrition to reprogram cells, without the need for other genetic interventions.”

Diabetes and Pancreatic Function

A calorie diet requires measuring and selecting foods to take effect. Therefore, more studies are needed; however, it is a medical nutritionist that will become a tool supported by scientific evidence for treating diabetes and pancreatic function without medication. For now, the findings are promising, researchers are in full preparation of a clinical trial on humans.

“The most astonishing thing is that the system was always at our fingertips,” mentions Longo. “Now that I’ve discovered, we can identify ways to make it work, and we can use it for the benefit of human health.”

After Dr. Emily Burns, manager of communications in the Research Center for Diabetes in England, the discovery is “undoubtedly promising, but we must see if the results people are equally good, before we know what may this mean diet for patients with diabetes.

“Patients with diabetes type 1 and 2 would benefit from treatments to repair or regenerate the cells that produce insulin in the pancreas. “
